TLP provides a safe home and a community of comprehensive support with a focus on education, vocation, counseling, health care, nutrition and life skills to homeless youth. The charity nurtures independence, a positive future, and encourages hope and love for some youth that have never experienced feelings of worth.
According to a University of Illinois study, 25,000 youth between the ages of 13-21 years old have experienced homelessness at least once, and at any given night in the Chicago area, 2,000 youth are homeless.
We believe everyone deserves a safe home. That is why we chose to support this wonderful charity. The generous donations we received from the community for the charity was inspiring, especially an entire “welcome basket” that was donated by Kate H. and her church.
A “welcome basket” is a complete set of basic personal items, such as shampoo, a toothbrush, towels, sheets, pillow, etc. Every youth who enters TLP’s transitional living program receives this welcome basket. It represents a fresh start, and for many youth, these are the first items they can claim as their own.
This past week we received a thank you card from Quinn. He wrote: “Thanks for the presents. You have made this x-mas very memorable.”
