We asked our team to share their thoughts on what Security for a Peaceful Life means to them. Our tagline Security for a Peaceful Life was born out of the desire to help people feel confident through physical protection. VinTech believes that the right security system supports a high quality of life.

Read along to see what they shared.

Mun, VinTech’s president, was a child when her home was burglarized while their family was asleep. The next morning, the family found one of their kitchen’s butcher knives placed in the living room. She began to feel unsafe at home and experienced recurring nightmares about the incident. She recalls “I had no peace of mind until we moved to a new home.”

Incidents like this can have a long-term effect on how we view protection. In Mun’s case, not only did it disturb her peace at an early age but later influenced her decision to take a role in the security industry.

Why is it important to feel secure?

Feeling secure is at the base of every success in a person’s life. It means having a sense of control of yourself and the environment. Many factors can influence our sense of security. These include both internal (mindfulness, confidence, and inner peace) and external (a support system that includes physical and emotional security measures).

Ideally, both internal and external factors not only have to co-exists but thrive in order to feel secure.

How does Security for a Peaceful Life look in real life?

Being Completely Present.

When was the last time you stopped, took a deep breath, and focused on listening and looking at everything around you? If you have never done this, it might take some practice. The goal is not to simply look but to become aware of your surroundings and stay there as long as possible.

Which factors disrupt the process of staying present?

We often think about the safety of those we love but don’t ask ourselves if we feel safe. From time to time, we might think about possible scenarios that could bring us harm but we know that these situations usually require a reaction from us. However, do we ever give ourselves time to think about what it would take for us to feel completely safe? When we become aware of the importance of meditating about this, it changes our perspective of what being protected should feel like.

Romeo, Technician at VinTech Systems, believes that protection should enable you to “ease your mind from unexpected dangers. As in being safe in a way that you don’t even need to think about being in any possible danger.”

And if there is one place where you shouldn’t have to think about being in any possible danger, it should be your home.

This is why the job of a reliable security system is to protect what’s most important to you. When you have confidence in your physical security, you’re more likely to shift your focus to stay in the moment. Whether it’s having dinner with family or going to sleep, a high quality security system can support your peace of mind to help you stay present.

Have a Peaceful Mind & Sleep.

According to the Sleep Foundation, “It is believed that between 15% and 20% of adults experience short-term insomnia in any given year.” Sometimes, identifying the reason(s) for these changes is not that easy. However, practicing regular self-care can help.

For example, Antonieta, VinTech’s administrative assistant, believes that good sleep is needed to have a peaceful life. She uses aromatherapy to calm her mind before going to sleep in search of: “TRANQUILITY.” Then she starts to “imagine being able to sleep without being concerned.”

Just like Antonieta, many of our clients feel that a night routine in preparation for sleep helps them calm their mind. Additionally, if you take similar steps every night, you’ll be more likely to not forget to lock your doors or arm your security system.

Secure your Financial Stability

One additional component that can help you feel secure is to protect your property against theft and damage.

Mun, VinTech’s owner and founder, knows that security is not something you want to delegate to just anyone. She stands by the company’s core value of protection because she also uses our security systems to help her feel at ease: “As a business owner, it’s important for me to know what’s going on during operations. We are able to see some improper behavior, […] and who is working hard. It’s also important for us to know that our property is protected during non-business hours.”

Whether it is at your business or at home, protecting your assets can bring you the comfort of financial stability. And even though you can’t always be there, you can be confident that you have already taken the steps to secure your property and items of value.

Security for a Peaceful Life is more than a tagline for our founder and team. We work every day to find solutions that will work best with our clients goals. We want to help them find “[…] peace of mind when you’re at home or away.” _ Kyle, Lead Technician.

Can a Security Company Provide Public Footage?

Recently, a Chicago resident called our office to request we provide public footage. Apparently, their company’s truck had been robbed in front of our clients’ establishment. She believed the business’ camera had captured the crime and wanted access to their footage. Although we sympathized with her, we denied access. Public footage from a privately owned camera is private property. Our clients’ security is our main priority and we strive to protect their privacy. After we explained our reasons to not to provide public footage, we also encouraged the caller to reach out to the building owner. If the building owner agrees to help, he/she can give access to police to view the camera’s footage. A few days later, the caller wrote a negative review on our company’s Google page. Not fair game! Let’s talk about public footage privacy and alternatives to solve similar cases.

From our Company

We maintain the highest standards of privacy when we follow a procedure to identify our clients before providing any data. This information includes account number, emergency contacts, and video footage. This privacy policy is part of our core values to serve with confidence: “For over 10 years VinTech has worked hard to earn our clients’ trust. We’ve established relationships and built confidence for our clients.”

To Our Clients

Our clients download video footage when a crime occurs to provide evidence to police. Clients can refer to the instructor’s manual or we can also provide technical support. Technical support includes guidance to review, download, and store footage. If the time frame of the crime is not known, we reserve the right to charge a fee. This fee covers the time that our team has to spend reviewing video footage. For example, if a crime is committed overnight, the time will most-likely be unknown. Consequently, our client might request that we review hours of footage. Furthermore, Chicago residents can connect their privately own cameras to the city’s network. The City of Chicago’s website has a section for their Private Sector Camera Initiative. Chicago Police has access to all registered camera systems from the network. Nonetheless, a person who privately owns a camera system reserves the right not to provide footage unless there is an official request.

To the Public

A victim of a property crime should contact police to make a report. Only police can access the city’s camera system or can request footage from a privately own camera. It’s crucial to consider that video footage is usually stored from 14 to 30 days so its crucial to act promptly. Write down the day and approximate time when you believe the crime occurred to narrow the timeline. This will help you speed up the process. Victims are often frustrated and desire for matters to be solved quickly but it’s important not to forget that camera owners are doing you a favor. You should demonstrate that you acknowledge their help throughout the process.

Reviewing the security system contract is as important as researching the service itself.

One day you recognize that your property is in crucial need of security. You begin by researching a few local companies, reviewing their ratings, and making phone calls. Some companies reply immediately, others a few hours later and some let’s say, too late to consider. Once you’ve identified a few good candidates, you get to the last step of the process: reviewing the proposals. That’s the most critical part of the decision making process.

Being in the service industry, we’ve worked with many customers. We’ve heard numerous stories from clients who regretted not comparing vendors and accepting the first proposal or the lowest bid, which ended up costing them much more in the long run.

When a bargain isn’t always a bargain.

If a contractor’s low bid seems too good to be true, it probably should not be trusted. A contractor may have the lowest initial bid, but they will usually try to make up the difference through hidden charges and fees for materials and service equipment not included on the original bid. “Unexpected” charges can result in property owners paying an amount equal or greater than the highest bid.

So how can you identify the best solution at the best price?

Ask the following three questions:

What are you really quoting here?

Comparing Apples to Apples

A lower price doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the best deal. To compare a security system contract efficiently, it’s important to understand what it offers. The key is to evaluate the equipment and services on the same scale. Compare apples to apples. For example, recently a client called us for an estimate on installation of high definition security cameras. We provided a quote with 3 mega-pixel cameras with a wide dynamic range function to block sunlight because we know regular high definition cameras will not capture details if there is excessive sunlight. Our client asked why our price was higher than the other company. We explained that the other company only offered regular high definition cameras. We suggested that the client ask the other company if they would match with the same or at least similar functionality for the cameras. Without understanding what type of system or equipment they’re comparing, most people will likely choose the lower bid. When quotations offer the same quality on equipment, other variables such as warranty on equipment, warranty on labor and maintenance plans will increase the value. What is most important to you?

What is the warranty on the equipment and what does the maintenance consist of?

Quality versus Quantity

Companies offer anywhere from 3 months to 2 years’ warranty on the equipment and/or labor. Do not assume either of these will have a warranty unless it is clearly stated on the estimate. Ask about their maintenance plans and the benefits of adding this plan at the time of your installation. Proper maintenance can save you lots of $$$ and time. Learning about these policies will give you a good start in building a relationship with your new security provider.

Do you have a list of references and can I contact them?

Online reviews vs. Personal recommendations

The company you choose to work with needs to be able to respond to your needs promptly. Ask for references, if possible for projects similar to yours. Instead of saying something like: “I heard great things about your security company, how do you like the service?” try this: “I am looking for a security provider and contacted your current company, can you tell me what type of security system you have, how long you’ve been with them and your overall experience? These questions leave room for the client to speak freely. Online reviews are great, but might only be the first impression of a company. Ask for references of long-term clients as they will be able to give you a more comprehensive overall review of the company.

We hope these questions will be helpful with your next security project. Good luck.
