In 2022, the City of Chicago saw a 65% increase in theft, 29% increase in burglaries, and 19% increase in robberies. Additionally, multiple large companies announced their relocation to different states in the US. One of them, Citadel, citing crime as a primary reason.

But what about small business and residential homes that have strong ties to the Chicagoland and don’t want or can’t afford to leave?

Feeling secure is not a commodity but a necessity for Chicago residents.

A VinTech employee who lives in Bowmanville, a family-friendly neighborhood in Chicago, says she had always felt safe living there. Then last week, a string of robberies close to her home started to make her feel uneasy.

That Monday morning, she heard helicopters in the area for several hours.

The suspects were later arrested in Lincoln Square but not before 2 people were assaulted and the car that was used for the crimes crashed against a city truck.

Then a few days later, she opened her Nextdoor App to write this post:

“This morning, Wednesday Dec 21st, at around 3:05 a.m. I woke up to three gunshots that were at very close proximity. This occurred near Farragut and Hoyne in the Bowmanville neighborhood. Can anyone tell me if they heard them too? I’m shook because they sounded so close.”

Dozens of neighbors commented with support and what they were already doing as a response to the incident. Unfortunately, many agree that even when the act of violence is not directed at you, it can disturb your peace and routine.

How do outdoor security cameras improve safety?

Security cameras are not new to the City of Chicago who has a network of more than 50,000. In addition, last year’s Home and Business Protection Program provided a rebate for residents to install new outdoor security cameras.

In order to improve safety, one of the program’s requirements was to connect these public cameras to The City of Chicago’s Office of Emergency Management and Communications.

The OEMC is a “state-of-the-art unified video surveillance network” that officials and Homeland Security directors access “during emergency situations and after appropriate notification has been given.”

As part of the process, our technicians connected new camera systems to this network and trained clients to manage their new system. Additionally, our office staff provided guidance and the documentation needed to apply for the rebate.

Why are more Chicago residents and business owners installing outdoor cameras?

Deter criminals.
Most criminals want to commit a crime and move on to the next “best thing”.

Outdoor security cameras are different from other security systems because they are visible BEFORE the crime is committed. In conjunction with warning signs, they work to increase the perception that would-be criminals could be caught and punished.

Provide evidence.
One thing that most Chicago residents will agree is that they don’t want offenders getting away with crimes.

Security cameras can capture criminals in the act but most importantly, they capture details. High definition security cameras can give significant clues like face features, tattoos, and vehicle license plates. When an incident occurs in front of your business or residence, you’ll be glad to have footage to provide as evidence to the police. And with the video surveillance network, they will access the footage almost right away.

Why is a burglar alarm a necessity?

A recent FBI report, found that 1 in 3 homes without a security system will fall victim to a burglary as compared to 1 in 250 homes that do have a security system.

A burglar alarm can help decrease those chances and is one of the most cost-effective solutions to secure a home or business.
Get back your peace of mind.

An alarm system works with sensors. When a sensor is triggered, there’s a physical and electronic notification. The physical alert is useful if you are inside the home or business and to alert neighbors.

During the night, you can fall asleep more peacefully knowing that you’ll be alerted if someone tries to break into your home or business. This is a simple proactive action that can give you that peace of mind back.

When a professional company monitors your alarm, you’ll also have a faster response from the police and it’ll buy you some time to take charge of the situation.
Safety routine in Place.

Did you know that the most common points of entry for burglars are open doors and windows?

When you have a burglar alarm, it’s easier to be in control because it becomes part of your routine. If there are any tips you’ll ever want to follow are these three: Lock all doors (including the garage or back doors for businesses), lock all windows, and arm your alarm.

Reduce losses.

A burglar alarm can be controlled remotely. From a phone App, you can arm and disarm your system, control your thermostat, and other smart devices. Everyday actions, overtime increases protection and reduces loss of valuable items and resources.

If you own a vacant home or property, this blog is for you!

Earlier this month, ABC news reported the case of Danielle Cruz, a Chicago homeowner who was remodeling her vacant home when a stranger moved into the property. When she realized this was happening, she called the police. However, when police arrived, they couldn’t do anything after the “trespasser” showed them a signed lease.

Why couldn’t the police remove the woman from Danielle’s home?

Although trespassing is a crime in Illinois, police officers have no way of knowing whether the person in question is a trespasser or a tenant. Even when it’s up to their discretion to remove the person, they often refuse. This is because they don’t want to be liable if the homeowner is simply trying to skip the eviction process.

In these cases, Police will likely handle this as a civil matter rather than criminal if no other crimes are taking place. Nonetheless, it’s still important to report the incident to the police. Officers are considered sworn witnesses and their statements are documented in official reports.

What is a Squatter?

“A squatter is someone who trespasses on a piece of property they do not own and begins living there without permission. They do not have any legal claim to the property and are not tenants, but after a period of time they may gain squatter’s rights.”

Nonetheless, the process to remove a squatter is usually lengthy. As mentioned above, the property owner must file an action in court for civil trespassing and wait for a court date where a judge will decide on the case. This is why it’s far easier to prevent your vacant property from being occupied by trespassers in the first place than to remove a squatter.

When a trespasser becomes a Squatter

In the case of Danielle Cruz, by the time she realized that there was someone living in her home, the squatter had already changed the locks. This means that at least several days had passed since the intruder had settled in Danielle’s home. Furthermore, “this unaccounted time” makes it more difficult for police to treat this incident as trespassing.

In retrospect, the only “right timing” to prevent a squatter from settling into your home, it’s to be alerted as the incident is occurring.

Can an alarm system prevent trespassers from settling into your vacant property?

Burglar Alarm

Burglar alarms are monitored by a local station 24/7. Whether you are at home or away, the system will alert you and the local monitoring station when someone or something ‘is in the zone’ and has activated the motion sensors. The monitoring station will then call you to verify a false alarm or to dispatch the authorities immediately if needed.

This system is best for…homes.

Benefits:

Protect your investment from Squatters or intruders.

Manage and monitor your alarm from your phone remotely from an app. Additional smart home devices can also be managed this way.

Discounts on home insurance.

Video Verification Alarm

A Virtual Guard Verification Alarm uses high-tech cameras with live video monitoring to provide continuous feedback. Properties are monitored 24/7 and when the system’s camera detects motion, a signal is sent to a live operator. The operator will ask the person to leave through an onsite speaker. A local police officer or a security guard will be immediately dispatched if the intruder doesn’t leave.

This system is best for… construction sites, commercial buildings, auto dealerships, warehouses, schools, and any places with open/wide areas.

Benefits:

No power? No phone line? No internet? A Video Verification Alarm provides security even with the ‘three no’s and under extreme weather conditions.

Your property is protected soon after your account is activated. This process takes less than 24 hours and there isn’t training involved to operate the system.

In addition to the camera, Virtual Guard’s sensor can also be triggered and an automated voice message will ask the trespasser to leave the area.

Removing a squatter from your property can be a lengthy process that can cost thousands of dollars for a property owner. The best plan is to get alerted as soon as a trespasser enters the property. An alarm system and support from a local monitoring company can work together to protect your investments. Catching an intruder in time will prevent them from settling into your home.

We asked our team to share their thoughts on what Security for a Peaceful Life means to them. Our tagline Security for a Peaceful Life was born out of the desire to help people feel confident through physical protection. VinTech believes that the right security system supports a high quality of life.

Read along to see what they shared.

Mun, VinTech’s president, was a child when her home was burglarized while their family was asleep. The next morning, the family found one of their kitchen’s butcher knives placed in the living room. She began to feel unsafe at home and experienced recurring nightmares about the incident. She recalls “I had no peace of mind until we moved to a new home.”

Incidents like this can have a long-term effect on how we view protection. In Mun’s case, not only did it disturb her peace at an early age but later influenced her decision to take a role in the security industry.

Why is it important to feel secure?

Feeling secure is at the base of every success in a person’s life. It means having a sense of control of yourself and the environment. Many factors can influence our sense of security. These include both internal (mindfulness, confidence, and inner peace) and external (a support system that includes physical and emotional security measures).

Ideally, both internal and external factors not only have to co-exists but thrive in order to feel secure.

How does Security for a Peaceful Life look in real life?

Being Completely Present.

When was the last time you stopped, took a deep breath, and focused on listening and looking at everything around you? If you have never done this, it might take some practice. The goal is not to simply look but to become aware of your surroundings and stay there as long as possible.

Which factors disrupt the process of staying present?

We often think about the safety of those we love but don’t ask ourselves if we feel safe. From time to time, we might think about possible scenarios that could bring us harm but we know that these situations usually require a reaction from us. However, do we ever give ourselves time to think about what it would take for us to feel completely safe? When we become aware of the importance of meditating about this, it changes our perspective of what being protected should feel like.

Romeo, Technician at VinTech Systems, believes that protection should enable you to “ease your mind from unexpected dangers. As in being safe in a way that you don’t even need to think about being in any possible danger.”

And if there is one place where you shouldn’t have to think about being in any possible danger, it should be your home.

This is why the job of a reliable security system is to protect what’s most important to you. When you have confidence in your physical security, you’re more likely to shift your focus to stay in the moment. Whether it’s having dinner with family or going to sleep, a high quality security system can support your peace of mind to help you stay present.

Have a Peaceful Mind & Sleep.

According to the Sleep Foundation, “It is believed that between 15% and 20% of adults experience short-term insomnia in any given year.” Sometimes, identifying the reason(s) for these changes is not that easy. However, practicing regular self-care can help.

For example, Antonieta, VinTech’s administrative assistant, believes that good sleep is needed to have a peaceful life. She uses aromatherapy to calm her mind before going to sleep in search of: “TRANQUILITY.” Then she starts to “imagine being able to sleep without being concerned.”

Just like Antonieta, many of our clients feel that a night routine in preparation for sleep helps them calm their mind. Additionally, if you take similar steps every night, you’ll be more likely to not forget to lock your doors or arm your security system.

Secure your Financial Stability

One additional component that can help you feel secure is to protect your property against theft and damage.

Mun, VinTech’s owner and founder, knows that security is not something you want to delegate to just anyone. She stands by the company’s core value of protection because she also uses our security systems to help her feel at ease: “As a business owner, it’s important for me to know what’s going on during operations. We are able to see some improper behavior, […] and who is working hard. It’s also important for us to know that our property is protected during non-business hours.”

Whether it is at your business or at home, protecting your assets can bring you the comfort of financial stability. And even though you can’t always be there, you can be confident that you have already taken the steps to secure your property and items of value.

Security for a Peaceful Life is more than a tagline for our founder and team. We work every day to find solutions that will work best with our clients goals. We want to help them find “[…] peace of mind when you’re at home or away.” _ Kyle, Lead Technician.

Can a Smart Thermostat Save you Money?

The energy profile of your apartment, home, or business is always unique. Factors like the square feet of your space, the number of appliances and how often you used them, all contribute to the cost of your electric bill. However, this doesn’t mean that there aren’t ways to reduce this cost. The use of smart technology and daily changes can both make a difference on your pocket and the environment.

What is a smart thermostat?

A smart thermostat is a small device that can be controlled remotely with an App or any other internet connected device. It allows you to schedule your settings to predetermined temperatures and manage the device even when you’re not onsite. A smart thermostat can also be connected to an existing alarm system and be controlled from the alarm panel.

How to choose a smart thermostat

There are many smart thermostats brands to choose from. If you already have an alarm system in place, the best option is to contact your security company and inquire about their recommendations. Most of the time, they will know which brands and models are compatible with your system. Additionally, it will save you the time of searching for this information yourself.

If you don’t already work with a security company, this article Best Smart Thermostats of 2021 from the Consumer Reports website might be helpful. The report includes brands like Ecobee, Honeywell, and Google Nest.

How to Manage your Home Device for Best Results

If your main goal is to save money on your home electric bill, you’re on the right track. A smart thermostat will help you reduce energy costs by giving you flexibility to manage your device from an app. The settings have a schedule function that you can use to set the thermostat at a predetermined temperature during different times of the day. Controlling your smart thermostat from the app also means that you don’t have to be at home to manage it. This can be especially helpful on days when the weather in Chicago is expected to reach extreme conditions.

Save 10% on your home electric bill by following this rule

If you want to decrease your electric bill by up to 10%, you’ll need to adjust the thermostat temperature to 5 -7 degrees of your normal temperature setting for 8 hours a day. For example, if during the summer you usually set it up at 70 degrees, you can increase it to 75 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. when you’re usually at work or during the weekends when you’re out and about. Once you’re getting ready to go back home, decrease the temperature via the app and arrive to a cool home.

Additionally, since many people have been working from home during the pandemic and expect to continue to do so, one better option is to look for smart thermostats with multiple zones capabilities. This system allows you to set up different temperatures in different zones of your home; which is an ideal fit when you’re spending many hours in your home office.

How to Maximize the Use of a Thermostat in a Commercial Space

Commercial spaces require the same if not more attention to detail than residential homes. Take for example one of our long-time clients who owns a restaurant in the Edgewater neighborhood. They contacted VinTech Systems to install smart thermostats after experiencing a surge of 30% on their electric bill. The restaurant had recently reopened their indoor dining area, but it was still an elevated shift for such a short term. Upon discussing the change with the restaurant’s manager, the owner realized that most employees had forgotten to turn down the room temperature in the kitchen and front area, and before closing the restaurant at night.

In the past, VinTech had offered smart thermostat technology, but at that time, the restaurant owner didn’t think it was necessary as she was often on site. Fortunately, VinTech had already upgraded their Honeywell alarm to be compatible with the 4G network. This meant that if they now decided to install a smart thermostat, they could use a system of the same brand and simply connect it to their existing alarm system.

The restaurant owner now manages the thermostat remotely and immediately saw a decrease of 15% in their electric bill the following month after installation..

What additional steps can you take to reduce your electric bill?

In addition to installing a smart thermostat, we have found these simple tasks to be effective to reduce energy costs:

Turn off appliances when not in use to extend their life and decrease the cost of replacements. Unplugging also helps and you can reduce the time dedicated to this task by using smart power strips.

Switch your lightbulbs to LEADs. They have a longer life and will save up to 80% more energy.

Install efficient showerheads. They don’t only reduce the cost of energy but help by filtrating water.

Final Thoughts

Installing smart thermostats at your home or business can help decrease your electric bill and save you time when you use the schedule settings to set up predetermined temperatures. If you are unsure about how to start as there’re so many options out there, call us today at 773-388-1208. We are here to answer any questions.

Smoke detectors can be life saving when they are working properly. Unfortunately, this was not the case for Des Plaines, IL mother and her four daughters who died in a fire back in January 27th, 2021. The apartment where they lived had only one exit and although the investigations are still ongoing, it has been confirmed that it didn’t have a smoke detector.

Because of this incident and many others, we want to discuss the importance of reducing false smoke alarms. It’s necessary to spread awareness about smoke inhalation related deaths as this is the number one cause of death related to fires.

How can you identify what is triggering your alarm?

A smoke detector needs regular health inspections to work properly. Most people know that overcooked food, low batteries, or a loose wire can cause a smoke detector to go off. Fortunately, these false alarms can often be prevented with good ventilation, changing the batteries every 5-10 years, and checking the system annually for faulty wires. Nonetheless, there are several other external reasons that can trigger a false smoke alarm. These are six of the less common triggers to look for:

1. Proximity to cold air returns

Smoke detectors are sensitive devices and temperature changes can trigger them. It’s not the first thing you should check but it might be helpful in explaining why an alarm is triggered. If your device is placed close to a door or window, cold air or dust particles from outside can trigger the sensor. This is specially true about false smoke alarms during the night.

Kidde Fire Safety explains in detail why this happens in their article: “Why do smoke alarms go off in the middle of the night?” Their post describes how a battery can develop internal resistance and trigger an alarm when the temperature around the alarm decreases.

2. Proximity to high humidity

Has your smoke detector gone off while you are in the shower? It sounds like the alarm might be too close to your bathroom. The bathroom’s humidity and steam from hot running water, might be causing this false alarm. You can try relocating the device further away from the bathroom and test if that helps reduce/eliminate this trigger.

3. Insects are crawling into your the cavities of the alarm

This is an interesting trigger because it’s unexpected. Many of us love insects only from a distance and find it difficult to believe that our homes have more than a couple of small spiders. Well, this is perfect because small insects can fit into the small cavities of the smoke detector and trigger the sensors. Luckily, this issue becomes a problem more often during the fall and it can be resolved by opening the smoke detector, checking inside, and cleaning the device.

You can read more about how to reduce this trigger in our blog: “Can spiders set your alarm off?”

4. Build up of dust or dirt

Internal and external accumulation of dust or dirt in a smoke alarm is normal. It’s easy to forget about these devices when they are not making a noise. However, dust can also trigger a false alarm. This is because smoke detectors react similarly to dust and smoke particles. The good news is that a semiannual cleaning of the device can be a solution to prevent this trigger.

Additionally, if your smoke detector is connected to your burglar alarm, this cleaning can also be done when your alarm company provides maintenance to your alarm. If you check both devices on the same dates, it’ll be easier to remember when the last inspection/testing was performed and if the batteries of your smoke detector need to be replaced.

5. Strong chemical odors are being detected by your alarm

Chemicals in cleaning products, ammonia, or paint fumes can also become triggers. Most of the time, this false alarm resumes after ventilating the area. If the problem persists, it might be helpful to reset the smoke detector.

6. Furnace/fireplace is turned on for the first time.

When turning on the fireplace or furnace for the first time during the season, dusty elements can create smoke. It might be difficult to prevent this false alarm but should be easy to eliminate by waiting for the smoke to dissipate and reseating the alarm.

When was the last time you tested your smoke detector?

It is important to test the device every six months to make sure they are working properly

Follow these steps to test it:

Inform everyone in the house you will be testing the smoke alarms to avoid confusion.

Use safety precautions if you need to climb a ladder.

Inspect your smoke detector for faulty wires or dust.

Press and hold the test button on the smoke detector.

After a few seconds, you will hear a loud siren from the smoke detector.

If the sound is weak, replace your batteries.

Test the new batteries to assure they are working properly.

The Takeaway

In most cases, the fact that your smoke detector makes noise it’s a sign that your device is in good condition and responding to external aggressors. Unfortunately, like any other device in the house, a smoke detector can have minor glitches. The good news is that most can be prevented or resolved within minutes.

If you have already checked all these triggers and the problem persists, you should also consider upgrading your alarm. As the detector gets older, it becomes less efficient and you don’t want to risk having a system that doesn’t work well.

It’s understandable to get irritated when you can’t pinpoint the reason for the false alarm right away, but don’t give up! Remember that no one should ever live in a home without a working smoke detector or delay testing it regularly

The demand for thermal cameras has spiked in the U.S. after a rapid spread of COVID-19. Thermal cameras are more appealing than ever because they can read body temperature in real time. These cameras don’t require physical contact either. However, some companies are abusing this need when they give false information. These companies or individuals turn online to websites and social media to make false claims. For example, some articles claim that thermal cameras can stop the spread of the virus. A false claim is difficult to catch because most people turn to websites and social media for information. Let’s take a look at four common misconceptions and discuss their accuracy.

Do Thermal cameras stop the spread of Coronavirus?

Thermal cameras do not detect COVID-19 or any other viruses. The infrared cameras’ read body temperature to detect if its above normal levels. Companies can use this information to send an employee home. They can protect others from being close to someone who is contagious.

Are Thermal cameras 100% accurate?

Infrared cameras have existed for over 90 years. They are widely used in Asian countries. Depending on the brand and model, these cameras can read body temperature with close accuracy. The best results vary only by a half degree. They can also read body temperature simultaneously. Most thermal imaging devices don’t require the individual to stand still in front of the camera to read their temperature. Many airports have already adopted the use of thermal cameras because passengers’ temperatures can be measured as they walk.

Infrared cameras are high maintenance, right?

Unlike thermometers that need to be sanitized after every use, thermal cameras have only one user. The person who is handling the thermometer doesn’t need to get close to the person being measured. In fact, these cameras can detect a person’s temperature from 4-6 ft away. This is the recommended distance to practicing social distancing. After installation, these cameras require only minimal training to operate. They are also low maintenance and maintain better sanitation standards.

All cameras invade privacy.

Invasion of privacy is always open for discussion. Some people fear that their personal information will be stored. Many others believe that the risk that a pandemic poses to the public is greater and it should outweigh the invasion of privacy. However, thermal cameras do not store personal information other than body temperature. When COVID-19 cases decrease, quality of life improves. In the worst of scenarios, thermal cameras will store minimal information for less than 30 days.

Thermal cameras should not be advertised as an exclusive solution to stop the spread of COVID-19. Rather, businesses should use them in addition to other measures. High body temperature is not the only COVID-19 symptom. It can also mean that one of the many other viruses is present. Thermal cameras have proven to be useful in high traffic places like airports, schools, and large offices. The outlook of this pandemic will determine if thermal cameras are here to become the new norm of technology post covid-19. The better we respond to this pandemic, the better the outlook for the future will be.

Opening the doors of your property to find that you were robbed can be unsettling. Insurance is helpful but you still want those who are responsible to be arrested.

LG Bar, a Chicago business located in the neighborhood of Old Town was robbed overnight last spring. The bar’s cameras recorded HD images of the intruders. In fact, their faces, clothing, and special characteristics were all identified. Chicago police received footage containing all the useful evidence.

Nowadays, more crimes are solved with the help of technology, social media, and security cameras. You can expect this peace of mind when acquiring security system for your property or business.

Helps Deter Crime

Some businesses post photos of thieves in their he wall of shame to expose criminals. Similarly, security cameras can work to intimidate thieves. Their main purpose is to deter crime although they can’t stop it. Nonetheless, basic security measures should not be neglected. Property owners still need to lock their doors, report suspicious activity, and activate their alarm system overnight.

Increase the Security of your Community

Communities often have block watch programs in their neighborhoods. These programs rely on volunteers to keep a watchful eye and report crime in their blocks. In the past, it was common to complain about nosy neighbors. Nowadays, these community programs rely heavily on technology. For example, the suburb of Hinsdale, IL. Their program Block Watch registers their neighborhood’s outdoor cameras. The neighborhood’s quality of life reflects the programs’ success. In 2019, Hinsdale IL ranks safer than 81% of U.S cities. In this town, security cameras have become the new community that keeps watch 24/7.

Refute False Claims

From time to time, businesses have to deal with incorrect claims from clients. False claims can do more than ruin your day. Security camera footage can help resolve those claims faster when you use it as evidence. Evidence can help settle a claim whether its a misunderstanding or crime.

Its reliable Witness

When settling disputes, eye witnesses can forget important details or may unintentionally change a suspect’s description, time, or even the date of the crime. With a security camera, police can collect images and process them using face recognition. They can create an exact timeline of events (using date and time from footage) to help them gather evidence to present in court if needed.

Monitor Activity

Monitoring can help you determine the cause of inexplicable loses in your business or property. However, trust between you and your neighbors and/or your employees is also important. It would be a terrible idea to accuse someone without evidence. Even when a neighbor or an employee claims to have seen another person doing something, its not granted. A security camera system enables you to make an informed decision. Cameras should be used for protection not to micromanage.

A security camera system can empower you, protect your assets, and keep you safe by deterring crime from your community.

Can a Security Company Provide Public Footage?

Recently, a Chicago resident called our office to request we provide public footage. Apparently, their company’s truck had been robbed in front of our clients’ establishment. She believed the business’ camera had captured the crime and wanted access to their footage. Although we sympathized with her, we denied access. Public footage from a privately owned camera is private property. Our clients’ security is our main priority and we strive to protect their privacy. After we explained our reasons to not to provide public footage, we also encouraged the caller to reach out to the building owner. If the building owner agrees to help, he/she can give access to police to view the camera’s footage. A few days later, the caller wrote a negative review on our company’s Google page. Not fair game! Let’s talk about public footage privacy and alternatives to solve similar cases.

From our Company

We maintain the highest standards of privacy when we follow a procedure to identify our clients before providing any data. This information includes account number, emergency contacts, and video footage. This privacy policy is part of our core values to serve with confidence: “For over 10 years VinTech has worked hard to earn our clients’ trust. We’ve established relationships and built confidence for our clients.”

To Our Clients

Our clients download video footage when a crime occurs to provide evidence to police. Clients can refer to the instructor’s manual or we can also provide technical support. Technical support includes guidance to review, download, and store footage. If the time frame of the crime is not known, we reserve the right to charge a fee. This fee covers the time that our team has to spend reviewing video footage. For example, if a crime is committed overnight, the time will most-likely be unknown. Consequently, our client might request that we review hours of footage. Furthermore, Chicago residents can connect their privately own cameras to the city’s network. The City of Chicago’s website has a section for their Private Sector Camera Initiative. Chicago Police has access to all registered camera systems from the network. Nonetheless, a person who privately owns a camera system reserves the right not to provide footage unless there is an official request.

To the Public

A victim of a property crime should contact police to make a report. Only police can access the city’s camera system or can request footage from a privately own camera. It’s crucial to consider that video footage is usually stored from 14 to 30 days so its crucial to act promptly. Write down the day and approximate time when you believe the crime occurred to narrow the timeline. This will help you speed up the process. Victims are often frustrated and desire for matters to be solved quickly but it’s important not to forget that camera owners are doing you a favor. You should demonstrate that you acknowledge their help throughout the process.

Case Study

The Chicago Chinatown Chamber of Commerce decided to add an additional 18 cameras in the Chicago Chinatown area. While the neighborhood is considered quite safe, community leaders have been discussing the ongoing safety of residents and tourists. In association with Chicago Chinatown parking, The Chicago Chinatown Chamber of commerce selected our company to provide expertise and installation of the new cameras.

The Challenge

Our challenge was to identify the most suitable locations to distribute the cameras. The Chinatown neighborhood is located in Chicago’s south side so we carefully considered the needs of the community to provide optimal solutions.

During our meetings, we identified areas with higher crime rates. We decided to focus on even distribution to maximize coverage. Additionally, we recommended the use of wireless high definition cameras that detect motion. These cameras follow motion, record continuously, and provide wider coverage. Furthermore, a single high definition cameras is capable of covering the same area as four analog cameras. This capability was essential in providing wider coverage while simultaneously being cost-effective.

The Solution

As part of the solution, we also emphasize the importance of being able to identify facial features and license plate numbers. Only high definition cameras can enhanced images without compromising details. The system’s DVR automatically saves and stores footage for up to 21 days. If a crime occurs, police officials can obtain the footage to assist in identifying the offender. In many cases, this leads to an arrest.

Moreover, other Chicago neighborhoods are already taking similar actions in an effort to increase safety in their communities. We are confident that every effort will improve safety in these communities.

VinTech Systems Receives 3 Local Security Awards

We are happy to announce that Vintech systems has received three security awards. Despite being a small business, we are achieving big goals!

Each year, the security industry challenges us to keep up with new emerging technologies. Nonetheless, these challenges drive us to aim for excellence. We want to celebrate our 11th anniversary by sharing these three security awards with you.

This year

As many of you know, we are located in the Chicago area. All of our clients live within a 30 mile radius of the city so we are proud to be the local. Indeed, a local award is important to us. This year, ThreeBestRated.com listed VinTech Systems as one of the Top Three Security Systems Companies in Chicago. Their endorsements are based on business’ reviews, history, and customer satisfaction. They also take in to account complaints, cost, and reputation. Please take a moment to review our Better Business Bureau profile. You won’t be disappointed!

Last Year

We received the second award from Expertise.com, a company who connects people with experts in their community. Initially, they conducted an analysis of 588 home security companies. In the Chicagoland area, they selected VinTech Systems as one of the top 14 security system providers. Their selection criteria consisted of five elements: reputation, credibility, experience, availability, and professionalism. We are glad to make it to the top 14!.

In 2015

We have exciting news about VinTech’s owner too. The Chicago Business Journal selected our president Mung Wong to be a woman of influence. This program recognizes women leaders in the Chicago area who are innovative and successful in their respective industries. Notably, Ms. Wong has demonstrated not only the determination to succeed in a predominately male dominated business but she loves it too. Congrats Mun!

Thank you!

We appreciate receiving all three security awards. After all, our success is built working with our community. Additionally, these security awards are an affirmation of the dedication exhibited by our team. The staff not only strives to provide a consistency but also good service to our customers. We are grateful to both our loyal clients and team for their continual support these past eleven years.
